Liver Food was designed with the athlete and the average person in mind. Dosed just right to assist in nourishing the liver, and keeping stress off of it while “on cycle”. Liver Food also promotes healthy liver function by combining three very effective ingredients that have been clinically proven to do so.
Milk Thistle Extract (80% Silybum marianum) : Milk thistle has been used medicinally for over 2,000 years, most commonly for the treatment of liver and gallbladder disorders. A flavonoid complex called silymarin can be extracted from the seeds of milk thistle and is believed to be the biologically active component. Milk Thistle has been used in cases of liver diseases (cirrhosis, jaundice and hepatitis), gallbladder disease, and is claimed to protect the liver against poisons. Silybum is a hepatoprotective (antihepatotoxic), antioxidant (radical-scavenging agent), thus stabilizing and protecting the membrane lipids of the hepatocytes (liver cells).
Phosphatidylcholine has been used to treat Liver disorders and lowering cholesterol. In Europe, phosphatidylcholine is used as a treatment for acute viral hepatitis, alcohol-induced fatty liver, chronic hepatitis, cirrhosis of the liver, decreased bile solubility, diabetic fatty liver, drug-induced liver damage, and toxic liver damage. Phosphatidylcholine is also medical used as a form of lipolysis.
Alpha-lipoic Acid (ALA): Several studies and experiments have proven that ALA can be used to reverse liver damage and nourish the liver. in 2009, Harvard published three case reports using a double-antioxidant supplement regimen in patients with liver disease, including chronic hepatitis C infection. After several months of treatment with a combination of alpha lipoic acid and silymarin, all three patients recovered most or all of their liver function, avoided liver transplantation and went on to live healthy, productive lives free of the symptoms of liver disease. From 2008 to 2011, studies in humans have shown that alpha lipoic acid can provide important improvements in the following: recovery following liver surgery; protection from chemotherapy side effects and chemical poisoning; liver regeneration; and protection against liver and kidney damage from acetaminophen-containing drugs . Since acetaminophen poisoning sends over 56,000 people to emergency rooms each year in the U.S., these study results are all the more impressive. Additionally, alpha lipoic acid also helps in the areas of nerve health (e.g., diabetic neuropathy), metabolic health (e.g., insulin resistance and weight control) and brain health. “In an industrialized world heavily burdened by pollution and toxic chemicals, alpha lipoic acid has emerged, and rightly so, as a nutritional ray of hope for many.”
